Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten Programs

CHM provides before and after daycare. Full time schedule includes anything from 7:00am until 6:00 pm.

Our preschool program is designed for children ages three through four. We consider it a fun, educational environment.  Children are encouraged to engage, explore and enjoy.

The Kindergarten program offers children the opportunity for group and individualized learning, focusing on math, language, creative writing, science, geography and culture.

Because one can never be quite sure how the day’s events will progress, all times are approximate.

7:00 – 8:00

The children may eat a light breakfast (provided by you) and may play with daycare jobs inside one of our classrooms

8:00 – 9:00

Weather permitting, children are allowed to play outside in our beautiful backyard playground.

9:00 – 9:15

Children go inside to wash hands

9:15 – 9:45

Circle time.  This includes taking roll, morning greeting songs, calendar (we count days in three different languages!) weather, Montessori job presentation, Monthly thematic unit: topic of day discussed and corresponding job shown.

9:45 – 10:00

Snack time (We provide snack.  It is always a fresh fruit and carbohydrate item (ex: raisin bread toast with butter, PB&J with organic peanut butter on whole wheat bread)).

10:00 – 11:20

Work time:  Children are allowed to work on any jobs in the classroom, as long as the jobs are not beyond their particular skill level (ex: most four year olds would not be working on the multiplication box job).  During this work time, the teachers will work individually with the children assigned to her on their math and language jobs.  Progress on these jobs is documented daily. Kindergarteners work in a group, focusing on math and language skills.

11:20 – 11:30

Clean up and prepare for lunch.

11:30 – 12:45

Lunch time & outside play time

12:45 – 1:00

Children go inside, wash hands and prepare for afternoon circle.

Afternoon Circle.  We start afternoon with story time (book on tape, felt story, etc.), continue with mental math and finish by showing a Montessori job.

**Children ages 4 and under nap between the hours of 12:30 and 2:30**

1:00 – 2:30

Afternoon work time:  Children once again work on jobs in the classroom, with teachers guiding them and helping them when necessary.  Kindergarten students work in group setting.

At 2:30 the Montessori educational program ends.  Children are dismissed for outside playtime.

3:00 – 3:15

Snack time (Once again, we provide snack)

3:15 - 4:00

Outside play time.  Various “table jobs” are brought out every day and an art job is made available to the children daily.  We try to provide various outdoor projects for the children so they are busy and having fun.

4:00 - 4:30

“Second Lunch.”  Many of our children start to get hungry again around this time, so we allow them to finish what is left in their lunches.

4:30 - 6:00

Free Play Time.
